Usually I go through yet another list of life hacks with a bit of skepticism, because I am generally too lazy, for example, to make my own mix of baking soda, lemon and whatever else is required to get a simple cleaning product I can just buy. I don’t see the point of adding yet another difficulty level when I can use good professional stuff to solve the issue for me. Thus, the household cleaning hacks that ended up in my list are those that offer the truly easiest solution to the problem, not yet another alternative option. So here we go – 20 household cleaning hacks I found useful:

1. If you broke a glass, which I personally do on a regular basis, use a piece of white bread to pick up all the splinters.
2. If you need to clean the metal surface of your iron, put some salt on it and iron the white piece of a normal
3. To clean the inside of your handbag, use a lint roller. It will catch all those small coins and pieces and the wrapping paper of chewing gum in no time.
4. To clean Lego blocks (and any other small plastic toys), put them in a mesh bag and wash them in a washing machine or a dishwasher.
5. To get rid of lipstick stains spray some hair spray on the stain, leave it for 5-10 minutes, gently wipe it off and wash the garment as usual.
6. If your vases or bottles got dirty inside, use some egg shells or loose rice. Just break the egg shells or pour-in rice, add a bit of water with a cleaning product and shake the vase or a bottle until its bottom is squeaky clean.
7. A nail file helps with removing stains on suede shoes.
8. For those resistant tea or coffee stains on your cups use some fresh citrus peel.
9. To remove the sticker (price tag or any other) either use a hair dryer, or put a wet cloth on the sticker and leave it like this for half an hour.
10. If you are washing your wine glasses in a dishwasher, you can secure them with an elastic ribbon to prevent accidental damage.
11. Vanilla extract can be used to neutralize the unpleasant smell in your freezer or fridge. Just wipe the sides and lids with a wet sponge with some vanilla extract added to it.
12. For your wooden surfaces, especially in case of scratches, get some walnuts and gently rub them. The oils contained in a walnut will hide the scratches and give a glare to the surface.
13. If you had a piece of furniture standing on your carpet for a while leaving the indentation marks on it, you can get rid of them by putting some ice-cubes until they melt, followed by vacuum cleaning the carpet.
14. If you have shaving foam or any other tin can to be used in the bathroom, cover the bottom with some colorless nail coating. That prevents the rust stains otherwise difficult to get rid of.
15. There is nothing better than a shoe polish to get rid of scratches and usage marks on leather furniture.
16. For grease stains on clothes rub them with chalk before washing. Sometimes even the washing itself won’t be required.
17. To clean your cheese grater, grate a potato with it.
18. White parts of your sneakers can be cleaned with toothpaste. I haven’t found anything more efficient than that.
19. Kids, especially girls, tend to have some of those glittery things that leave glitters all over the place. Picking them up is a true hassle. Use some play dough, it works!
20. Water rings on your wooden table can be easily removed with a hair dryer. To recondition the wood and enhance its color, wipe it afterwards with some olive oil or rub it with a walnut as mentioned above.
